Bert E. Arch was born 10 July 1880 in Victor, Iowa County, Iowa to Nicholas Arch (1840-1908) and Melinda Jane "Jennie" Weirbaugh (1845-1915). Nicholas immigrated from Prussia with his parents in 1852 before moving to Elkhart, Indiana where he married Jennie. He and Jennie lived in Victor, Iowa for a number of years between 1870 and 1900 after which they moved to Nappanee, Elkhart County, Indiana. At least one child, Bert, was born in Iowa. In 1901, Bert married Chloe Adella Wilson (1883-1952), daughter of Edgar Farmer Wilson (1854-1905) and Florence Isabel Keesey (1862-1955) of Nappanee. He worked for many years at Coppes Kitchens in Nappanee, retiring in 1960. He died in Nappanee, 25 November 1964 and was buried in the Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, Marshall County, Indiana.
Chloe Arch was the first cousin once removed of Miriam Grasz Field, to whom this website is dedicated. Bert and Chloe's son Frederick Burdett (1918-2003) (pictured above) was one of 5 cousins born in 1918. Miriam Grasz Field was in this group of cousins. Fred and Miriam stayed in contact until he died.
