The homes of George & Lavica Hinkle Field and John and Jennie Shoemaker at 1001 and 1003 Oak St., Valparaiso, Porter County, Indiana. These two homes are side by side and mirror images of each other. The George Field home was built in the late 1800s or early 1900s and it is assumed the Hinkle home was built about the same time.

Lavica and John Hinkle were brother and sister. They were born in Gibson County, Indiana. Three of the children of John and Jennie were Nancy Jane, Guy and Charles. Guy was shot to death in 1906. Charles, always known as Charlie, was good friends with the sons of George and Lavica. Nancy was known as Aunt Nannie in her older years. During the later years of her life she lived with various of her relatives.
